ADHD Assessment

ADHD Assessment

We offer continuous performance testing (Conners CPT3) which is a computerized test for ADHD. This testing can bring us more objectivity in the assessment of the attention deficit, and we can use it to measure the current benefit of the ADHD medications.

About ADHD

Children and teens with ADHD, especially when untreated, are more likely to take risks, fail in school, and have difficulties in interpersonal relationships. Teens with ADHD are up to four times as likely to be involved in a driving accident, and get three times as many speeding tickets. Despite controversy in the media about ADHD in children, the American Psychiatric Association, American Medical Association, National Institute of Mental Health, and many practicing psychiatrists, verify that ADHD is a very real and potentially life-disrupting disorder.

Children with untreated ADHD are more likely to be obese, smoke, suffer from major depression, and attempt suicide than the general population. If your child has symptoms suggesting ADHD the best way to proceed would be to ask for a psychiatric consult.

Can Adults Have ADD/ADHD?

Though it remains one of the most studied disorders in children, ADD/ADHD in adults often goes undiagnosed. According to epidemiologic data, about 4% of the general adult population has ADHD but less than one tenth of them are diagnosed. Only a third of the adults diagnosed with ADHD are treated. 90% of adults with ADHD are unaware of their diagnosis and suffer various degrees of functional impairment. They find themselves unable to keep a job or appointments, seem constantly disorganized, and may have a history of problems at work.
